Council backs grand prix

THE Narrogin Town Council has agreed to sponsor an event to celebrate the 50th Jubilee of the Australian Grand Prix with the Vintage Sports Car Club of WA.
The event will be held on November 24 and 25 this year and will be part of Narrogin Race Week.
The Narrogin Commemorative Australian Jubilee Grand Prix will also celebrate the Centenary of Federation just as the Australian Grand Prix held in Narrogin in 1951 celebrated the 50th anniversary of Federation.
Narrogin Race Week will start with the Rev Heads weekend on November 17 and 18 and continue through the week to include events such as speedway, trots, horse racing, motorbike and boat races.
The grand prix will have a hill climb on the Saturday and 22-24 racing events on the Sunday. Admittance will be free but donations will be invited from people visiting the event.
Committee chairman Cr. Don Ennis said he hoped to extend the hiring period for the Rev Heads grandstand so it could be included in the grand prix program, but there would be a charge for those seats to cover costs.
Anyone interested in being a member of the committee or becoming part of the volunteer force during the two-day event is invited to contact Cr. Ennis on 9881 4309.
