In 1951 the Australian Grand Prix was held
in Narrogin, Western Australia. To celebrate the 50th Jubilee of that event,
Narrogin Town Council,
in association with the Vintage
Sports Car Club of W.A. Inc., brought 'round the houses' competition
back to the town in 2001. This was a week long celebration of all forms of racing,
culminating in vintage racing cars competing around the houses on Sunday November
24. Many of the original cars and drivers from the 1951 event returned for the
festivities.
Saturday November the 24th
featured a 1/4 mile Sprint Event both of Classic
Cars and also where anybody could bring their own car and have a go (subject
to regulations), Speedway, a Street
Parade and a Hill Climb.
Sunday, the 25th, was the Narrogin
Commemorative Jubilee Grand Prix which re-enacted the 1951 Narrogin Australian
Grand Prix.
