This was Steve and Chris's first introduction to just how big Western Australia is. Being unable to think of any other way to impress this fact, on their second day in Australia, Kenn bundled them into the Ford Falcon and they set off on the 650 kms drive to Kalgoorlie. Kenn drives this quite regularly for work and it normally takes about 5 1/2 - 6 hours in a non-stop slog. We took over 7 hours and stopped at the many interesting places on the way:
Meckering Camera Museum
The Big SLR Camera museum at Meckering appeared to be almost derelict, certainly not open anymore (Note added Nov 2006:- seems to have re-opened - must call in)!
It did however provide a break, some hilarity and a photo opportunity!
We also stopped at an interesting museum at Cunderdin.
During the drive a CD playing included the track "Road to Nowhere",
more hilarity and the theme song for the holiday.
And here is a shot of the road to nowhere, there is endless amounts of this in WA.

So here is a
fine pair of pairs of legs, a Ford Falcon and The Road to Nowhere.
The twin towns of Kalgoorlie-Boulder currently have an approximate population of 35,000 and their entire water supply comes from the Perth dams via a pipeline - over a distance (Kennz house to Kalgoorlie) of 650kms. This pipeline runs alongside the Great Eastern Highway is visible for nearly all of the journey.
So here we have,
Falcon bonnet & roo-bar, car phone aerial, The Road and to the left, The Pipeline.
On the way to Kal is a lay-by with a "Scenic Outlook" - a big rock you can walk to the top of. From the top you can see a full 360 degrees of nothing but bush, not a sign of human interference at all, no roads, no noise, nothing.
