Kim came next - black and gold who was highly intelligent, easily trained and
Mel nicknamed him 'the golden wonder' which
earned Mel the nickname ‘Crunchie’ after the Golden Wonder Crisps popular at
the time. Unfortunately Mel discovered that Kim was afraid of the dark which
made him highly unreliable. Mel's senior officers seemed unconcerned until one
day fate proved this fact. Mel off sick, Kim back in police kennels, while being
exercised by colleagues, he escaped and was eventually found, hours later, cowering
in the dark. On Mel's recovery he found he was to return to a new police dog.
